Michael Barber

Michael has a multi-disciplinary approach and qualifications which extend his capacity to service his clients by bridging the gap between business, technology and law.

TECHNOLOGY LAW

Michael has been working globally in the information technology industry for almost 20 years. His career has seen him perform as a programmer, business analyst, project manager and as a lawyer specialising in technology law.

He possesses a depth of domain experience few lawyers have. This enables him to provide practical legal solutions to corporations engaging in technology-based business transactions.
He advises clients on a broad range of technology matters including, cyber security, privacy, intellectual property, Queensland Government QITC contracts, data breach events, software development agreements, SaaS contracts, mobile application terms of use and is regularly involved in related negotiations.

COMMERCIAL LAW

Michael’s background in management consulting has endowed him with experience working across a very wide range of industries. This allows him to come up to speed very quickly where his clients have unique requirements.

He regularly advises on, reviews and prepares a wide range of transactional needs including service, supply and sales agreements, non-disclosure deeds, intellectual property and unique industry specific requirements.

Where the work extends beyond his own skill set he has the project management experience to guide a multi-disciplinary team (including specialist lawyers) to deliver on his client’s requirements.

CORPORATE LAW AND GOVERNANCE

Michael is also a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia, being professionally designated as a Risk and Governance Professional. Currently on track to completing advanced qualifications in corporate governance (2019) which will qualify him as a chartered secretary and further his capacity to advise corporate boards.

He regularly advises on legal structures, asset protection and engages in the preparation of shareholder agreements, trust deeds and a range of corporate registration and secretarial services.
